California State University Long Beach
CA · AI Readiness #102 of 227
AIREDEX™ Score: 7.3 /10
Cal State Long Beach launched a B.S. in Applied Data Science in Fall 2025 with required coursework in artificial intelligence and machine learning, giving undergrads a STEM-eligible degree path built around those disciplines from day one.
CSULB pairs that degree with campus-wide access to both Microsoft Copilot Enterprise and ChatGPT Edu, available to every student through a single sign-on dashboard, with the ChatGPT Edu contract secured through 2029 across the CSU system. Faculty in English, Management, and Health and Human Services have woven AI literacy into their courses through AIEIC-funded projects, and a training series including Copilot Prompt Patterns and a student-facing Copilot workshop rounds out what undergrads can access today. A standalone AI minor open to students outside the Applied Data Science major would give more Beach students a formal path into the field.
