AIREDEX™ Score: 4.0 /10
A Center for AI in Business, directed by John Drake, launched at ECU in October 2025, bringing together business, computer science, engineering, and social sciences for hands-on AI projects with regional employers across eastern North Carolina.
ECU undergrads also access the Artificial Intelligence Teaching and Research Institute's faculty-facing workshops that reshape classroom instruction, plus GPU-enabled HPC resources through the NC State HPC Partner Program and Microsoft Azure. A 10-year Intergovernmental Services Agreement with the U.S. Army Reserve Command, signed in August 2026, anchors a machine-learning-driven predictive maintenance program drawing on students from computer science, technology systems, and construction management. ECU also participates in the 20-university MAIGHE AI research consortium alongside several national research universities.
