Indiana University Bloomington
IN · AI Readiness #56 of 227
AIREDEX™ Score: 8.2 /10
IU Bloomington students get free access to ChatGPT Edu and an AI literacy course, both rolled out system-wide across all IU campuses. The $60M Luddy Center for Artificial Intelligence anchors the university's broader AI research effort.
The Luddy Artificial Intelligence Center, directed by David Crandall, draws more than 50 faculty from nearly every IU college and houses 25-plus active AI research labs. Indiana leads a $7.5M Department of Defense grant studying AI's role in online misinformation, and students in Law, Business, Education, and the Media School all encounter AI coursework in their programs. The Big Red 200 and Quartz GPU clusters give students and researchers free compute access. Major public research universities with this footprint often have a formalized senior AI leadership title and a standalone undergraduate AI major, which IU may be on the path toward.
