New Mexico State University-Main Campus
NM · AI Readiness #188 of 227
AIREDEX™ Score: 5.3 /10
New Mexico's first standalone Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence and a new AI institute spanning every college both launched at NMSU in fall 2026, funded by a combined $2.5 million from the state legislature and university president's office.
NMSU undergrads also have free access to Discovery, the university's on-campus HPC cluster with 16 GPU nodes, and faculty support through the AI Teaching Institute, a stipend-bearing annual program that reshapes how AI is taught across disciplines. The Fujitsu partnership, formalized in October 2025, is building a national HPC and AI testbed at NMSU. With R1 status achieved in 2025 and more than $141 million in annual research expenditures, NMSU is working to translate that research capacity into undergraduate opportunity.
