Stony Brook University
NY · AI Readiness #89 of 227
AIREDEX™ Score: 7.5 /10
Stony Brook now weaves critical AI integration directly into the required SBU 101 and ADV 101 orientation seminars launching fall 2026, giving every incoming student a foundational introduction to responsible AI use before choosing a major.
Stony Brook undergrads from every major can enroll in CDS 222: AI Ecologies, a philosophy-led course that satisfies the university's Critical/Ethical Reasoning general education requirement and draws guest lecturers from English, history, music, and psychology. The NVwulf GPU cluster, launched in 2025, gives research-track undergraduates access to 24 NVIDIA H200 GPUs, and licensed tools including Gemini and NotebookLM are available to all students at no extra cost. There is no standalone AI minor or certificate open to students, leaving Stony Brook a step behind fellow SUNY flagship Buffalo, which already offers named minors in AI Ethics and AI, Crime and Society.
