University of California Irvine
CA · AI Readiness #56 of 227
AIREDEX™ Score: 8.2 /10
UCI's AI minor is open to every major on campus, not just engineering students, with AI integration reaching business, public health, social sciences, and the humanities. No Chief AI Officer has been named.
UCI's Center for Machine Learning and Intelligent Systems anchors the AI program, with an AI concentration within the CS major and documented undergraduate research pathways. The headline moves still haven't happened: no named Chief AI Officer, no standalone AI degree, and capital commitments that lag R-track peers. UCI ranks in the upper half of the UC system on fundamentals, with room to grow on the governance and degree side.
