AIREDEX™ Score: 8.5 /10
UCSD built TritonGPT and deployed it to every student, then launched a standalone undergraduate AI major in Fall 2025 with strong early enrollment. No Chief AI Officer has been named for the main campus.
UCSD built TritonGPT, its own campus AI platform hosted at the San Diego Supercomputer Center, and deployed it to every student, faculty member, and staff. A standalone undergraduate AI major launched Fall 2025 with 200+ students already enrolled and projections of 1,000 by 2029. Capital commitments include a $75M founding gift and $20M NSF institute leadership. The one structural gap holding UCSD back from the top tier: no campus-wide Chief AI Officer. The health system has one -- the main campus does not.
