Launched in late 2025, UMaine's Blue Economy internships put undergrads to work building AI-driven digital twins with employers like Kelson Marine, and every student has had free ChatGPT Edu access since July 2026.
UMaine students can register for the Fogler Library's recurring Generative AI Literacy Workshop series, while engineering students can add the online Undergraduate Certificate in Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence. Outside engineering, the Philosophy department's Minds and Machines course takes up the philosophy of mind and artificial intelligence. Undergraduates can also join faculty AI research through the Center for Undergraduate Research, with current projects ranging from trustworthy deep learning to AI's place in family life.

- System-level Vice Chancellor for Finance and Strategic AI Integration (Ryan Low) is a publicly active AI executive who presented UMS AI strategy at the Higher Learning Commission Annual Conference; no campus-level AI executive title found.
- UMS AI Working Group produced a public Final Report (September 2025) with cross-campus membership including faculty, students, and two university presidents; ongoing governance confirmed.
