University of Massachusetts Amherst
MA · AI Readiness #44 of 227
AIREDEX™ Score: 8.4 /10
UMass Amherst launched a campus-built, multi-model AI platform in Fall 2024 that is now licensed to other institutions, giving undergraduates secure access to OpenAI, Anthropic, Meta, and other leading models through a tool mature enough to export.
UMass undergraduates can layer on top of that platform access through four distinct certificate programs, including the 15-credit Certificate in AI in the Humanities and Fine Arts, the Isenberg Undergraduate Certificate in AI for Business, and the 20-credit iCons AI and Future of Work track, which welcomed its inaugural cohort in Spring 2026. The AI for the Commonwealth internship program places CICS undergraduates in paid, 16-week roles inside Massachusetts state agencies, with the majority of the first cohort converting to full-time staff.
