University of Vermont
VT · AI Readiness #200 of 227
AIREDEX™ Score: 5.1 /10
UVM's Provost launched a 47-fellow AI curriculum initiative in 2026 that places an AI-integrated course in every academic department, giving undergraduates across all disciplines a direct, structured encounter with artificial intelligence in their own field.
UVM undergrads also benefit from the Vermont Complex Systems Institute, a university-wide hub drawing faculty from Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Philosophy, and the Arts, with active NSF-funded projects and the new IceCore supercomputer cluster available for student research. The AI Taskforce, co-chaired by CIO Kellie Campbell and VP for Research Kirk Dombrowski, has produced public guidance documents, faculty guidelines, and a required AI literacy and ethics module in Brightspace for all incoming first-year students. UVM's recent elevation to R1 status gives this infrastructure a strong foundation to build on.
