University of Wisconsin-Madison
WI · AI Readiness #11 of 227
AIREDEX™ Score: 9.2 /10
UW-Madison's first new college in 40 years, the College of Computing and Artificial Intelligence, opened July 1, 2026 with $100 million in philanthropic backing and 50 new faculty hires underway.
Undergraduates can pursue the Ethics of Data and Artificial Intelligence Certificate through the philosophy department, which requires a dedicated AI and data ethics course open to students outside computer science. Microsoft selected UW-Madison as one of two university partners worldwide, alongside Princeton, for early access to its Discovery platform, an agentic AI research tool built with TitletownTech. The Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation also directed $15 million toward AI research at the university. UW-Madison has become one of the nation's most aggressive movers in AI investment, and with a new college leading the way, its momentum shows no signs of slowing.
