Wayne State University
MI · AI Readiness #124 of 227
AIREDEX™ Score: 6.8 /10
Wayne State built its own AI platform, WarriorGPT, deployed in 69 courses and used by nearly 3,000 students in fall 2025, giving every Warrior direct, free access to generative AI tools through Canvas without needing a personal subscription.
Warriors can also take PHI 1150: AI and Data Ethics, a standalone course that satisfies a General Education requirement and is part of a four-course Philosophy AI suite covering algorithmic bias, data privacy, and AI in war. The university's Institute for AI and Data Science, approved by the Board of Governors in October 2025 and co-directed by faculty from Computer Science and Mathematics, has drawn more than 50 faculty members across disciplines and launched a seed grant program. A multi-year partnership with Kyndryl is building the IntelliMake smart manufacturing hub on campus. There's no standalone undergraduate AI major or certificate yet; a planned Applied AI Fellowship for students is set to launch as a pilot in late 2026.
