AIREDEX™ Score: 7.9 /10
WPI launched a Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence in January 2026, giving undergrads a degree path in machine learning, generative AI, and AI ethics with capstone projects tied to named partners including Google, IBM, and MIT Lincoln Lab.
WPI undergrads can take WR 2200/IMGD 2200: AI in Writing and Communication, a course cross-listed between Writing and Interactive Media & Game Development, and access the AI4ALL program, a free no-coding-required experience open to all underclassmen covering AI ethics and connecting students to internship pipelines. The Turing HPC cluster, with more than 180 GPUs, is available to all students at no cost. WPI just landed a $8.8 million NIH grant to lead a five-year study using AI to guide chronic pain treatment, one of several federal research awards putting WPI's AI work on a national stage.
